As Chesapeake High School’s Freshman Academic Achievement Teacher, I work closely with our ninth-grade students, families, teachers, and staff to help every freshman have a strong and successful start to high school.
I monitor student progress through four key areas: Academics, Attendance, Behavior, and Belonging. I use a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) as the framework for my work, allowing me to provide support based on each student’s individual needs. This can range from schoolwide freshman supports and regular grade checks to individual check-ins, mentoring, progress monitoring, and more intensive interventions when needed.
By regularly reviewing student progress, celebrating successes, and identifying concerns early, I can help connect students and families with the right resources and support. My goal is to make sure every Freshman Bayhawk feels known, supported, connected, and on track for a successful first year at Chesapeake and beyond.
